We’ve had yet another remarkable year at the State Theatre and Bijou by the Bay — thanks entirely to you. When you come to the movies, when you volunteer, donate, become a member, and send us your ideas, you make our downtown movie palaces the the best places in the world to experience great art with your neighbors. In this season of thanks and giving, we want to off your our heartfelt thanks.
Seeing a movie at the State and Bijou is about more than affordable prices, state-of-the-art projection and sound, or even the unrivaled comfort of our Michigan-made seats. Our passionate volunteers in the theaters and on our board of directors are dedicated to bringing you unique experiences that start as you approach the glow of our beautiful marquees, and stay with you long after the credits roll. With your support, we will keep that magical experience alive.
When the State Theatre turned 100 this July, we celebrated the remarkable milestone in grand style. But meanwhile, deep in the theater’s underbelly, we worried over a side effect of reaching such a grand old age: systems failure.
Since it was installed in the 1970s, our tricky old steam boiler has been lovingly nursed along. But the march of time waits for no one, and they tell us the boiler has reached the end of its long road. We’ll be lucky to make it through winter, they say; our disco-era system is no longer viable. It’s time for a modern boiler to keep us warm and cozy at the State.
